S4# to be scored as original choice S4, now prefers S10.
A is now 3-3-3, but 6 want to bid spades, and 6 want something stronger that 2S, so I think we’re closest to 3S. Will consider additional arguments until about 7 PM eastern time tomorrow.

Not a great month for any of us. VVV and the submitted choices tied at 650, but it took 670 to make the honor roll.

Default March MSC Guesses

March guesses:
(A) 3D. Not so much to block them as to compete for the partscore. I might bid higher at other colors, but not here. Note that this doesn't really block them as opener can double to show extras, and with a minimum and neither a stop nor support, he was not going to be able to distinguish balanced and unbalanced hands anyway. I don't like 2S because if partner wants to lead diamonds against 3NT (he's not on lead against hearts), that's OK, and if he doesn't, he'll probably guess spades anyway. Meanwhile, he might raise (oops), and LHO's 3C bid now shows long clubs and a minimum, which h e has no way to show if I pass or bid 3D.
(B) 3NT. I'm certainly not making a serious slam try, but I have good trumps, a double-fit, and no unexpected wasted minor-suit values. That ought to be good enough to cooperate at least a little with partner's slam try.
(C) 2C. I'd prefer to be playing KS and to be able to rebid 1S here, but bidding 3-card spade suits when partner won't allow for the possibility is too dangerous. I'd rather open 1NT with this hand than rebid it. I'm too weak for 2D, especially considering the misfit. I'm too weak and too short for 3C. So 2C it is.
(D) 2C. What else? I'm certainly not preempting with this, and I'm certainly not failing to mention this suit when I have an easy way to do so.
(E) 1S. If diamonds get raised, I can always double back in. Yes, this has terrible lead value, but hopefully the auction will continue such that if we defend partner can work out to lead whatever trumps are.
(F) 4NT. 4S is tempting at matchpoints, but I hear 3-3 fits don't play well.
(G) This is tough. If partner were a passed hand or this were matchpoints, opening 2NT would be easy. Again, I find myself wishing I were playing KS, so I could open 1D and rebid 3D game-forcing. I wish there were a jump-shift that made sense after 1D-1H, but spades might end up being trumps, and clubs might get raised past 3NT. 1D-1H-3NT has two flaws...the lack of a club stopper and Kx of hearts when it shows a singleton. Too likely to lead to 3NT off five club tricks when 4H is on ice. 1S, 2NT, and 3D are unmentionable, as partner might pass them. Given that I can correct 1D-1H-3C-4C back to diamonds, I think (b4) is the least of evils, but it's a tough problem. This is why you open 2NT at matchpoints. But at IMPs you got to find those minor-suit slams..
(H) Hmm, how many IMPs would I be willing to pay in order for my partner to be on lead? Oh, that wasn't the question? If partner has AJxxx of diamonds (or SK along with QJxxx or QJ9x), I want to lead a diamond, probably the 10 or the K to unblock and protect partner's ace. If he has Ax or A10 of hearts and dummy has K8xx, I want to lead the HQ. I can't see lead a black suit. A spade lead is way too likely to give declarer his 9th trick with minimal upside to compensate for that risk. A club lead seems unlikely to accomplish much...if partners clubs are good enough to matter, they don't come with an entry--but it doesn't give up anything and I suppose it might disrupt comnunication. Still, I'd consider it more seriously if this were matchpoints.

A. 4 diamonds
B. 4 hearts. Or maybe 3NT, if 3S was a mild slam try. But 9xx of spades is a pretty discouraging holding for slam.
C. 1NT. Nothing, including 1NT, seems very good. 1S looks like the best alternative.
D. 1NT. At least I have a spade stop, and approximately the right strength.
E. 1NT. Should be in the top three choices anyway.
F. 4NT. Hopefully unusual. Not sure it is.
G. 1D; 3NT.
H. Heart 2. Nothing except hearts looks very promising. Possibly leading the 2 will cause declarer to misread the heart position and win trick 1 when ducking would be better for him. Hearts is quite the long shot, as unless declarer has only 4 major suit cards then partner has only a singleton, and may well not have A, K or 10.

A) 3D. I don't object to 4D or 2S. 3D has the advantage of taking away the opponent's 3D stopper ask. It also may cause them to misjudge their partner's diamond length, while 4D is likely to enable them to envision a stiff.
B) 3NT. My controls and super good heart suit make this hand worth a mild slam cooperation opposite partner's cuebid. I don't know to what extent 3H or 3S showed extras in this auction.
C) 2C. 1NT is a serious underbid, and 2D is a serious overbid.
D) 2C. Seems obvious. Maybe I play too much IMPs and not enough matchpoints.
E) 1NT. This hand just looks more like a NT hand than a spade hand.
F) 4NT. Surely not pass or 4S.
G) (a) 2NT. I do this all the time on BBO with robots.
H) S5. Maybe declarer is 2=2=(5-4) and we hit partner's QJxx. Definitely not a heart unless you promise me partner has the stiff 10. I could get talked into the S9.

March guesses:

A. 3D Don't want to bid 4D, as I wouldn't know what to do over the likely 4H. let them buy the contract at 3H.
B. 3N
C. 2C Clubs are strong enough to allow me to fib about having a 6th club
D. 2C
E. 1N
F. 4N pick a minor
G. 1D-2S An attempt to right-side 3N
H. Heart 6 Hopefully pard can contribute an honor
