Do any of you have a good template for an all-cause mortality analysis already built out? I’m thinking this is going to be the only way be even remotely accurate on aggregate impact based on some trends I’m seeing at work for an entirely unrelated condition.

I assume the epidemiologists will do that eventually. But hey, if any of you are set up for that analysis, that would be cool.

Another day of flat reported cases for Italy. But we know they’re still only testing severe cases, and I have to wonder if they’re testing all of those, or they’ve simply reached the limit of how many tests they can do daily.

Update on antibody testing:

Quote:
As stated in Section IV.D of the FDA's Policy for Diagnostic Tests for Coronavirus Disease-2019, the FDA does not intend to object to the development and distribution by commercial manufacturers, or development and use by laboratories, of serology tests to identify antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, where the test has been validated, notification is provided to FDA, and information along the lines of the following is included in the test reports:
  • This test has not been reviewed by the FDA.
  • Negative results do not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in those who have been in contact with the virus. Follow-up testing with a molecular diagnostic should be considered to rule out infection in these individuals.
  • Results from antibody testing should not be used as the sole basis to diagnose or exclude SARS-CoV-2 infection or to inform infection status.
  • Positive results may be due to past or present infection with non-SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus strains, such as coronavirus HKU1, NL63, OC43, or 229E.
This policy does not apply to at home testing.

The commercial manufacturers and laboratories listed below have notified FDA that they have validated and are offering serology tests as set forth in Section IV.D of the FDA's Policy for Diagnostic Tests for Coronavirus Disease-2019. The FDA has not reviewed the validation of tests offered by these developers, who will not be pursuing EUAs, and is including this list here to provide transparency regarding the notifications submitted to FDA.

I think Spain is in the exact same situation.

This looks like good new, about a new, faster RNA test:

A new COVID-19 test from the medical device company Abbott can return positive results in five minutes — and it can be run in a doctor’s office. The test was approved for emergency use in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration last night.
...
Doctors could take a swab from a patient’s nose or throat and insert it directly into the machine, and have results within 15 minutes (it can take up to 13 minutes if the sample is negative for the virus).
...
This is the second point-of-care test for COVID-19 approved by the FDA. The first, from the biotechnology company Cephid, takes 45 minutes. That test is primarily intended for emergency rooms and hospitals, not for doctors’ offices or urgent care clinics.
...
Abbott says it plans to start shipping 50,000 ID NOW COVID-19 tests a day starting next week.
