Thanks Fish and to everyone else on the AO who sent me their best wishes. It was cathartic for me. There are many good people on the AO!

Since I burdened everyone with my personal problems yesterday, I feel duty-bound to share an exciting positive development concerning my son that occurred just a few hours after I posted my AO message. The hospital called us to say he had suddenly started talking and was responding to instructions! My son asked the nurse to call his mother. The nurse set up a phone call a few hours later between our son and us and we heard his voice for the first time since his terrible accident. It was mostly mumbling on his part, only able to make out a few words, but it was clear he understood what we were saying from the few words that we could make out. Needless to say it was overwhelmingly emotional for us.

We have a long road ahead of us as we will not know for months the extent of his brain damage and other injuries. However yesterday told us his brain is processing information which was something we were unsure of before.

Now if we can just get through this Covid-19 pandemic.....

Alan

That's great news.

FYI - my father had a stroke quite a few years ago. He could not speak at all that day, just making gibberish sounds. His speech eventually recovered 95%, and I imagine your son is a lot younger than my father was at the time. Best wishes that your son has a similar bounce back.

Cooke, glad to hear your son is doing better! What’s the plan on explaining to him that he just got out of a coma, and that obscure news story he saw before the accident is actually a pandemic now?
