Actuaries and other quantitative professionals often spend the bulk of their time massaging data, developing results, and analyzing outputs. We graph, we interpolate and we visualize. We code, we order, and we model. And then, once we have the answers, we must communicate these effectively to our business partners, colleagues, and customers. If you would like to learn new and effective techniques for communicating that will maximize trust, understanding, and positive outcomes, then this is the webinar for you.

In this ACTEX Webinar, weíll begin by defining and understanding the different ways that we communicate with others both verbally and non-verbally. How do your tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language support or erode the message you are conveying through your words? Given that our colleagues and customers are different, with different perspectives, experiences, and preferences, communication cannot be a ďone-size-fits-allĒ approach. We will explore different types of information and different ways to share for maximum impact. Two-factor theory, which seeks to identify whether your business partners are currently satisfied or dissatisfied will be discussed, followed by a review of how to adapt language according to this starting position. Finally, we will look at likability, because it turns out that people are more likely to accept whatever it is that youíre recommending if they like you. So being likeable is a big part of improving communication. The good news is, there are there are situational and behavioral elements that we can control to help other people to like us more!

All of these ideas are easy and simple approaches that can significantly improve your influence and effectiveness within your organization and in your broader professional life.
