You have no idea what you're talking about. I mean, when even YOU don't get it, it's going to be incredibly difficult for the SOA membership at large to understand what's going on, hence the mlschop phenomena in this thread.

And just to be clear, over the past few years, a Waterloo professor who has never taken a SOA exam has had more say in who will be SOA president than the entire general membership of the SOA.

Well, that too.

But the breadth and depth of their apathy is, in general, pretty wide. It does tend to take a bit to get people out of their torpor.

We agree that hope isn't going to win the day. Vigorous defense of the CAS by its membership will.

In this forum I've asked the most vocal proponents of FSA-GI whether they would bet their careers the designation. So far, no takers. Given the likely future risks and rewards of FSA-GI, I don't see that changing for the next generation of actuarial students.

"Even" me? I didn't realize I had a reputation. I feel honored.

Reality is, the general membership doesn't care.

BINGO - you figured that one out. I'm impressed.

Lots of ways, actually. One is a phone call from Gary alerting the SOA board that the letter is on its way... Another is that the letter is coming first via email from Gary's address on Gary's letterhead. This is not an issue. But then inquiring minds want to know.

Then there is Arlie's attestation that he saw the letter being put together.
