I live in the po, so the calculus might be different here, but: I gave each of my two besties $200 when they got married. Anybody else, I think $100 would be pretty generous, and would probably lean more towards $50, unless they were throwing some super expensive reception or something.

I think it would be nice if the happy couple would give you an option that says, if you double the size of your gift, you are excused from attending the wedding altogether. I would call that money well spent.

I'm not sure I knew you lived in NY. So when's this wedding I'm going to and giving $200? Is there gonna be a lot of fun alcohol drinks and good food?

The last wedding I went to had the most awesome drink stations, but I couldn't drink any of it because I was suffering from acid reflux at the time. I need to go to another wedding just like that one where I can now drink if I take drugs to ward off symptoms.

Anyone else, $100 seems like a lot. I'd probably give $50, unless they were well off, then something just nice and personal or a donation.

If I got married today I'd ask for donations to an LGBT charity and pass the hat around for a prenup lawyer.
pretty sure $50 would be considered extremely cheap for a NY wedding gift.
