Default Excel based exam starting Spring 2018

http://www.casact.org/press/index.cf...articleID=3839

Basically you take your exam on your personal computer while remote proctor is watching you over the webcam.

Edit: Please read FAQ before making assumptions! http://www.casact.org/admissions/tbe/index.cfm?fa=FAQ

Born too early for Excel-based exams. Born too late to dodge IQ questions on the uppers.

Q: Exam Format: How does TBE change the format and style of questions on Exam 5 in spring 2018?
A: While the TBE environment will allow for more sophisticated test questions and the use of larger datasets in the future, those changes will not be implemented for the spring 2018 exam. For the first offering, the CAS is focused solely on the transition from paper and pencil to Excel. The questions on Exam 5 in spring 2018 will be the same as those that would have been asked if the exam had remained a paper and pencil exam; in other words, the questions will be similar in format and style to previous offerings of Exam 5.
Q: Exam Length: How much time is allotted for Exam 5 in spring 2018?
A: The exam is developed to be a four-hour exam; however, candidates will have five hours to take the exam under TBE. An additional hour is possible under TBE due to the flexibility of the exam conditions; there are fewer scheduling restrictions than with coordinated exam sites. Please note that a reading period will not be offered.
If spring 2018 sitting really has same amount of material and similar difficulty to the past few sittings, we might see surge in pass rate and/or pass mark. I could have used that extra one hour in every upper level exam!

Sounds like Spring 18 is the best time to take this exam. Same questions, more time, and less calculation errors.

If Im not mistaken, it's not YOUR excel (otherwise everyone would have VBA cheatsheets). You log into a remote environment and the excel is on the virtual machine hosted by the exam company.

All you need to worry about is electrical power and robust internet connection.
