you would throw it with 3 fingers. or you could use one of our balls if you could fit your hand in. the house ball wouldn't hook, but it's more the throwing motion.

And here I thought this thread became a mockery from the first reply...

While I concur that Franchise has a reputation for helpfulness, I think that reputation might be in jeopardy if he began advising inserting one's big toe into a bowling ball.

Then again, I am a terrible bowler, so perhaps using my big toe might improve my game.

Took my kids last weekend and BOTH of them beat me. I even used the "bumpers".

3 y/o bowled her 1st strike
6 y/o spared her first 4 frames and got an X
I was impressed. My bowling score is lower than my golf score to. Now I hate two sports!

I am a bowler. I am a high 170's bowler, not a 200+ like some others here, but I'll throw some free advice.

A ball that I would recommend is called a Columbia White Dot. This is to bowling balls what Timex is to watches. Good, sturdy, dependable, inexpensive. They are urethane, not plastic. I have seen these on Ebay for less than $40. Get it drilled by an old guy that has drilled thousands of balls. Get it drilled with a "fingertip" grip, meaning only the top digits of your fingers make it into the ball. Get it drilled with mild offset, so that it wants to hook, but gently. You should work on your mechanics and hitting your mark consistently. This ball will be your friend for decades.

Then if you ever decide to work up to a more expensive ball, then you can still use your White Dot for 10 pins and oily conditions.

Also, get a good pair of bowling shoes. I know a guy who bought a good pair of bowling shoes in 1942 and still wears them to this day.

He's already breaking his wrist trying to get a house ball to turn over. Buying a white dot is essentially the same. The only benefit he'd get is to have it drilled to fit. That ball is good only for spares.
