Default Do I really need a computer or iPad to manage an iPhone?

it's an iPhone 6+. do i really need access to a computer or ipad to manage the phone for software updates, backups, etc? the phone is really used only for calls, texting, navigation, a few other apps, and the occasional picture.

i asked this question in another thread, but i'm hoping to get more Apple eyes with this thread title.

No. Everything can be in the cloud now. My phone hasn't been connected to iTunes in years.

Same. I used to rip CDs onto my computer (iTunes) and then sync the phone. But it's probably been 3-5 years since my phone was ever plugged into a computer.

The only thing you would still need a computer for is if the phone gets disabled. This happens when you try to type in the wrong passcode many times. Then you have to plug into iTunes to reenable. This is a rarity, but does happen to folks especially if you have an infant toddler messing with it or if you damage the touchscreen (which I see occasionally at my phone repair shop).
