I like to avoid putting the calculator in bgn mode. After time 8 going forward the payments are level and you can use your PV function.

As noted in other threads, there are often multiple ways or splitting a stream of hard-to-evaluate payments into two more regular streams. No split is uniquely right, and people could disagree on which is best. Here if one stream is a level 5000 in every year (which means the other stream is subtracted), you get the right answer without shifting to time 8 or time 9. To each his own.
