Confession time: I didn't have my glasses on and totally read "industrial metal." I love industrial. Don't get me wrong, I like instrumental too. The ones you guys mentioned appeal to me.

I used to listen to the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack (cause it is awesome!), but i recently switched to solopianoradio.com. As its name implies, basically streams of solo piano play.

I like Tiesto's older music, usually the ones with minimal lyrics in them. Classical is also good too though. Going to have to try some of the recommended ones in this thread.
Bright Morningstar and Carpe Noctum by Tiesto are right on IMO for studying.

I have an Explosions in the Sky album (The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place) but I prefer Do Make Say Think. They are less repetitive and more musically interesting. I actually wanted to like Explosions when I first heard it because I like DMST so much, but it just got annoying after a while. On the other hand, I can totally tune it out so maybe that's a good thing? DMST has some tracks that are more dissonant and they can be hard to listen to if I'm not getting the material and am frustrated, but those same tracks are awesome when I'm tearing through practice problems.
Lately I've been listening to Breakers by Gem Club, which has lyrics but I find I can tune them out and I like the mood of the music. I also listen to music that I enjoy but am a little hesitant to mention, like the Winter's Solstice compilations, especially I and II, by Windham Hill. I also study to Bobby McFerrin pretty often. See also: musicforprogramming.net ETA: I listened to Explosions while I studied today just in case I was being too hard on them. I was not.
