Smile Adapt IFM and more now available from Coaching Actuaries!

We are excited to announce our brand new online manual, video lessons, and Adapt for Exam IFM. You can learn more about these products here.

The online manual is written by the Coaching Actuaries team. It has 11 sections -- 6 on derivatives and 5 on corporate finance. It covers everything that you need to know for the IFM exam. It teaches the concepts concisely and then illustrates how to apply them with examples. The manual's sections will be available on a stage-released basis. Section 1 - 8 are now available, and other sections will be available in the next two months.

The video lessons are instructed by Mike Carmody, FSA, CFA, MAAA. From 1998 to 2012, Mike taught thousands of actuaries in live and online exam prep seminars. He created study guides and seminars to help actuarial students pass required upper level investment exams. Mike is also the instructor for our VEE courses as well as our Chartered Financial Analyst exams. Mike is a longtime friend of Coach Kester! The videos will be available on a stage-released basis. Section 1 is now available, and other sections will be available in the next few months. Check out the sample video here.

Adapt sections will also be available on a staged-release basis. Most of the sections on derivatives are available now. The sections on Corporate Finance will be available by early March. Full exams will not be available until early March. Prior to early March, Adapt users can generate topic quizzes to practice derivatives questions.

Here is a link to the product release schedule.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We are here to help prepare for the new IFM exam!

Hi,

Are these video lessons different than the video lessons that were taught by Coach Abraham for MFE?

Correct. The IFM videos are taught entirely by Coach Mike Carmody, FSA, CFA, MAAA. Mike is very experienced in teaching investment-related exams. To let you know more about Mike, I'm including Mike's bio below:

Mike graduated valedictorian in 1991 from Lipscomb University with a math major and finance minor. After graduation, Mike pursued an actuarial career with two large insurance companies, obtaining his Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries in 1995. The next year he designed the actuarial pricing model for one of the first indexed annuities to hit the market.

In 1998 Mike launched his own actuarial consulting firm, specializing in indexed annuity design for insurance companies and brokerage firms. He also began JAM, which focused on study guides and seminars to help actuarial students pass required upper level investment exams. From 1998 to 2012, Mike taught thousands of actuaries in live and online exam prep seminars.

From 2004 to 2006, Mike worked with a group from Texas to create plugging insurance for oil wells. This involved forming an insurance company, creating a unique life insurance policy on an oil well, and drafting legislation.

In 2010 Mike helped launch Foresight Investment Advisors with his partner Steve Irwin. Together they created a separately managed account to mimic the investment returns of indexed annuities, but with more liquidity and lower fees.

In 2012 Mike took his first CFA examination, with plans to create online content to help people preparing for those financial exams. He completed the three exams and became a CFA charterholder in 2014. Mike partnered with his longtime friend Dave Kester to launch AdaptPrep for the CFA market.

In 2013 Mike began working for his friend Oscar Scott who had created Red Dog Mobile Shelters, a company that provided aerodynamically anchored tornado shelters for the oil industry. After working with Oscar for a couple years, Mike decided to buy the company in 2015.

Mike has always had a close working relationship with Dave Kester, who founded Coaching Actuaries. Mike took a more active role in Coaching Actuaries beginning in 2016, primarily as a product manager and chief financial officer.
