Before the change in venue, we had been researching hotels for the weekend before because my spouse will be attending RIMS in LA (also starting on the 5th) and thought we could do a quick Disneyland trip. We assumed something was going on because all the hotels around Disneyland were outrageously expensive for the Friday and Saturday nights. So the room rate may be $129 for the meeting nights, but I wouldn't count on getting that for the weekend nights. Just an FYI.

USC has a home game vs AZ the Saturday before.

Is Anaheim really a dump? I've never been, but I wouldn't have thought so.

It's an over populated concrete jungle. Just like Orange and numerous other suburbs or large cities or mega cities or whatever you call the ones that surround LA proper.

Still, it'll have great weather and enough to do in the immediate surroundings, including Disney stuff if you wish. Or a 30 minute uber ride gets you to surf city USA (HB) or beautiful Newport Beach.

But back to Anaheim, it in itself is average.

But, the venue is actually completed, so that's a plus.

And the Ducks are playing the Kings on Tuesday, and Mr. M and I have tickets. So that's a positive. More fun than visiting the Mouse.

"Dump" is pretty strong. It's clean, feels fairly safe, and not bad. It's just not as exciting as it sounds like it should be given the hype around Disneyland all of these years.

I'm thinking I'm going to fly into SNA and rent a car. Avoiding disneyland, will probably drive all over the place and see a bit of touristy stuff (since I have no plans to return until the CAS lures me there)

Laguna Beach is a short drive away. Worth a visit. Dana Point is a little farther south. You can take a boat to Catalina Island.
