I want to be happy, as in, not try to make others happy cause it'd make me happy, just me. Make sense?

You can’t get what you want, if you don’t know what you want.

It changes, I've never had big plans for my life, more a rough idea of what I'll do over the next five years. I find that's long enough to not do anything too reckless, but short enough that I'm not too wedded into anything that I can't change it.

Currently, I'm worrying about getting things into place over the next few years to make sure that we can give Gargette the upbringing we want to. Once that's done it'll be something else. In the past it's been moving to a different city, or getting my career onto a half decent long term trajectory.
I never had the "find a partner" goal, as I met Mrs Waiting while I was thinking about other stuff, and I've a feeling that's how it has to be - set a plan for yourself rather than tying it in to the feelings of someone you haven't met yet.

It clearly ain't the Meaning of Life, but I think it works for me.

The universe is a cruel, uncaring void. The key to being happy isn't a search for meaning. It's to just keep yourself busy with unimportant nonsense, and eventually, you'll be dead.

Diane Nguyen: Well, That's the problem with life, right? Either you know what you want, and then you don't get what you want. Or you get what you want, and then you don't know what you want

BoJack Horseman: Well, that's stupid.

Diane Nguyen: Yeah...
No. Why should I?

I read a while ago that there's this new theory that human consciousness was caused by a virus, and I've really latched onto it. Because if the root of human consciousness and the common cold is the same, then it's all a cosmic accident. There is no meaning to life. There is no "human nature" or reason why we're like this. It all just happened.

I find that super comforting. You don't have to want anything. Just do stuff. Be as happy as you can. Life is a chose your own adventure book, and which path you chose doesn't matter to anyone but you.

I do know what I want. I've always been decisive. Doesn't mean that in hindsight I've wanted the right things, but I'm always aware of what I want.

I didn't want kids for a long time, so I didn't have them. Then I wanted them, so I had them. Couldn't be happier with that decision.

Right now, I'm kind of on a coasting path, so I don't want for much beyond what I already have. But when I do want something big in life again, I'll make it happen. Thankfully, Mr. NA and I are usually on the same page when it comes to these things, mostly because he never knows what he wants and is happy to go with my flow.
