Default Fall 2018

Hello friends!

First time taking written exams. Just got my Fall 2018 Edge material. I am planning on memorizing the QBS lists and watching the supplement videos to help solidify these concepts in my head. My work schedule in the Fall is pretty busy with government filings and valuation meetings so trying to get a head start now.

This will be a fun 20 weeks!

Would love a study buddy to complain with lol

This is also my first written exam. I also have the EDGE and I am trying to a get a head start with my exam prep. I would like to have someone share study ideas with.

I have read the first two sections of the manual and I have watched the first 8 videos. There hasn't been anything that I find conceptually difficult and most of it is not new information. I'm hoping to get through all of the manual and videos by the end of July. After I have a solid overview of the exam content, I plan to start the raw memorization.

Feel free to share content on this post and I will keep up with the commentary here. You can also PM me if that's more comfortable.

Good luck!

One month 'til I find out if I'm writing again.

Best of luck to you. Do you have any words of wisdom from your experience of studying for this exam? I struggle with the idea of memorizing 1,000 flash cards as a strategy for passing an exam.

How are DB ER contributions more equitable than DC contributions? It seems to me that they are less equitable given that the DB plan favors old/higher service members, given them a greater benefit, not an equal benefit.

Depends on the context, I think, but if we're talking intergenerational equity then I think DC is more equitable as well, so I'm not really sure.

I don't really have any tips for the exam other than focus on comprehension and don't forget the details (small topics that haven't been tested before). Although, I hesitate to share tips before I even know if I passed! :P

Does anyone have an accounting cheat sheet? I'm looking for something that is 1-3 pages that summarizes the key points. I work on public plans, so must of this is new to me.
