Default International Congress of Actuaries (ICA) reputation

Is this conference legit? Looking at old posts it seems like quality isn't great. Is speaking at one of these nearly as prestigious as CAS/SOA events?

Never been, or heard much about it, but a quick look at the confirmed speakers (http://ica2018.com/wp-content/upload..._April2017.pdf), indicates a lot of academics, and a few high ranking Reinsurers (there's a couple of CEOs and a CRO in there I think).

I'm not sure what people would say in general about the "prestige" of speaking there. However, having attended the conference in Washington in 2014, it was one of the most fascinating conferences I attended, with actuaries present from 107 countries. It depends what you are trying to get out of the conference. It is likely not a conference to delve deeply into a specific technical area, but a great conference for international networking, and for getting a broad perspective of where the profession is internationally in different countries.

I believe so. However, if you want to check out previous congress presentation topics, their agendas are still available online:

I've spoken at two ICA's and lots of SOA meetings and don't feel any more prestigious from either. I enjoyed my ICA's because I know lots of people who attended and liked the venues (DC and Capetown) just as with SOA meetings. If your question is about P&C attendance, my feeling was it was equal to life. of course, there are no guarantees. If you think you'll like Berlin, then I think you'll enjoy the conference.

Yes, it is a legit event. Its been held every 3-4 years since 1895 (with two exceptions during world wars).

They had the 2014 ICA meeting colocated with the 2014 CAS ratemaking seminar (or whatever it was called that year) in Washington DC.

I went to the CAS seminar. A couple of the sessions were joint CAS/ICA sessions, and they were interesting.

I was been toying around with the idea of going to the event next year in Berlin, turning into a combined continuing ed and vacation trip, but the registration fee seems steep.
