![]() Former grad here. Their math dept. has been very serious for a long time about encouraging actuarial science studies to their math students, and do a very, very good job with their prep classes for the intro exams.
If you go to visit, I'd highly recommend speaking with professors Groggel, Holmes and Robt. Smith. While there are many wonderful professors there, these three were the first I came in contact with and the ones that really sparked my interest in mathematics and/or actuarial science study. As for the campus and campus life, as the son of a college professor, I was lucky enough to have seen a lot of schools before making my decision, with all the traveling we did with his school's sports teams. And I can say, with no doubt in my mind, it was the best decision I could have made. You'll leave wishing you could instead be a professional student, and just stay there. It's really a great place. |

![]() Just saw this, ST. Very nice summary! And I agree -- Miami's department of mathematics and statistics and its actuarial science program are both excellent. I also think Miami does a great job of teaching the business aspects for those students who choose the actuarial science "thematic sequence" in business/finance. And, yes, the campus life was awesome! Beer and wings at Mac & Joe's!

![]() I've never been to Mac & Joe's. And certainly never to do my homework. Very distracting. So I've been told.
