My office is definitely very overtly liberal. In meetings the week after the 2016 election, there was a pall over everything.

I prefer it this way. If I worked with many Trump supporters I would find another job.

That's probably real. They were friends. They went to each other's parties. Trump talked to Hillary before entering the race.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't want to be a pig farmer either

My department is very conservative, but not obvious Trumpkins. A couple LDS who don't say much, but one of them a few weeks ago said he disliked trump. There are three of us who are vocally anti-Trump, and we just stick together.

Our business unit as a whole is much more liberal. Still, leadership is very pro-Trump. The fact I know anything about leadership's political views is uncomfortable for me.

Trump is immensely unpopular with educated people, and actuaries are highly educated. I think the AO as a whole is pretty moderate (a mix of technocratic and libertarian) but both sides basically revile Trump. Liberals openly, conservatives quietly.

I'm not a big fan of discussing politics in person.

But... I got to admit the guy has very successfully gotten under a lot of people's skins.

Same here. I've overheard a couple of phone conversations and one lady (who recently left) it turns out is totally pro-gun (at least, I don't know what else) and basically rolling her eyes that anyone in her social circle would dare to vote for O'Rourke over Cruz, since the former would come take away our guns.

I'm the only person who spends much time in the break room, as others prefer to eat either out or at their desks. I'll channel surf between the three main news channels, and the only negative things I ever hear are about how messed up the Trump administration is.

Having said that, when the inauguration occurred, a few people went into the break room to watch, including myself. It was obvious that at least a couple of those individuals were watching in some sort of reverence. One of them was the pro-gun woman I mentioned above.

I've worked in 3 offices. One talked politics and was generally conservative. One talked politics and was pretty liberal. The other didn't talk politics at all (I liked that one best). Of course, it's not the entire office that leans one way or the other but more of the people I worked with/associated with.

I am not a fan of talking politics in general. I'm not a great debater, so usually the other person "wins" the debate. I think it might be because they poke a hole in my argument and I'm like "Oh, hmm I dunno let me think about that". If I poke holes in other people's arguments they are like "You're wrong! Blah blah blah"

Totally pointless to argue with people who are dead set on their opinions, which is why I don't even post on political on the AO. When I meet people with conservative views, I listen to them and ask questions, take an analytical approach as I do on the job, and even say that the problem is on both sides of the aisle. A couple of Facebook friends try to troll me into seeing things their way - for the most part I ignore them or delete their posts.

I don't know about other actuaries, but my family and I are all pretty obsessed with facts. When my brother and sister visit, it's par for the course that a nice Thanksgiving Dinner devolve into an online research session, for data and studies, PEW and gallup, confidence intervals, study methodology.... We argue a lot. And it's not just to "win", but to be 100% objectively accurate.

Outsiders to our family (husbands, wives, in-laws, friends) all get pretty annoyed by the degree to which we obsess over fact-finding.

So... Trump is basically the devil as far as we are concerned.

(And yes, all politicians do lie. And until recently my favorite political website was factcheck.org. I usually skip debates and just check online to see who lies more. But Trump lies so much and so aggressively that there's just no comparing.)
