Default TIA QFI Advanced Seminar - Fall 2018

I am excited to announce that the TIA QFIA seminar is updated and ready to go for the Fall 2018 sitting!

There were some fairly minor QFIA syllabus changes:

-Removed: Section 2.8 of Introduction to Credit Risk Modeling (now only Sections 2.1-2.7 are on the QFIA syllabus)

-Changed: Introduction to Quantitative Credit Risk Modeling Chapter 1 was changed from a "Background Only" to a regular syllabus reading

-New: 2 New readings for Section 7
  • QFIA-128-18: The Evolution of LDI & Role of a Completion Manager
  • QFIA-129-18: Equity Indexed Annuities - Downside Protection, But at What Cost

The TIA seminar has been completely updated for the syllabus changes and is ready to go for Fall 2018! Additionally, over the past few months we upgraded a number of readings (QFIA-104, QFIA-113, Bluhm Ch 2, Intro to Credit Risk Modeling Chapter 1) to give you more detailed coverage with more examples!

Keep in mind we also offer free iPhone and Android apps that let you view videos offline, watch them at variable speeds, and more. This lets you listen to us at up to 2x speed! I find this feature particularly helpful for reviewing in the last few weeks.

Students are already signing up for the TIA seminar to study for the Fall 2018 exam. Sign up here.

Below is a summary of the contents of the TIA QFI Advanced Seminar:
  • Detailed study guide and videos for the entire syllabus
  • TIA's new iPhone app, which allows you to download videos for offline viewing when you want to save data
  • New video player that allows you to play videos at variable speeds up to 2x (also works in iPhone app)
  • Study schedule spreadsheet with customizable start date and progress-tracking features intended to help you make the best use of your study time
  • 2 TIA full-length practice exam with solutions (200 points total)
  • 100+ TIA Practice drill problems with solutions
  • Full set of flash cards available in multiple formats (including PDF, iPhone App, Android App, and Web App)
  • Over 29 hours of video content!
  • Recently upgraded videos for Bluhm Ch 2.1-2.7, QFIA-104, QFIA-113, and Intro to Credit Risk Modeling Ch 1!
  • Breakdown spreadsheet analyzing past QFIA exam questions. Many students find this breakdown spreadsheet very helpful to see which readings were tested on past exams.
  • Video breakdowns of select past exam problems
  • Formula sheet review video series (10 videos, over an hour of video content)! This was by student request and added last sitting! This is a great way to make sure you know the layout of the formula sheet and the keys ones to leverage for this exam.

As always, feel free to email me at with any questions!

This week we updated our free Flashcards app for iPhone with even more features to help you get the most out of your valuable study time. In addition to a new look, some of the new features include:
  • A redesigned filter bar. You can now filter a single list of flashcards by topic, chapter, lesson, tag, or if a card is marked unknown or known
  • The ability to tag cards, and create custom piles
  • An updated design that allows for cleaner, crisper rendering of flashcard content
We also updated the look of our free Learn app for iPhone, which allows you to download videos for offline viewing and much more. One thing we've improved is the Learn app's ability to play audio in the background. This allows the Learn app to be used in more of an "audio-only" mode when you only want to listen to the lecture audio (e.g. while driving).

We are also hard at work on a redesign of our Android Learn app, which should be available later this sitting.

All of our apps are tightly integrated with the online seminar and following the lesson structure exactly. Your feedback on these apps has driven our mobile app development, and we'd like to thank you for that! We also look forward to hearing how you use these apps in your future exam prep.
