Default iphone emergency alerts

My iPhone (X) is giving me Emergency Alerts for the next door county.

It's both irrelevant to me and jarring to hear that blaring noise.

Perhaps, since I turned off most of the location sharing in system services it didn't know where I was, so I turned all of that back on, privacy be damned.

Any advice for an old guy who can't handle all of this new fangled technology?

I always turn off all of those alerts when I get a new phone. amber alerts will reach me in other ways (TV, radio, billboards) and I don't care about the other types. we're stuck with the presidential alerts, however -- those can't be deactivated

Settings -> Notifications -> turn off AMBER Alerts and Emergency Alerts (scroll all the way down to find these options)

Well, you already bought the iPhone. I would have advised against that.
