I guess I'm not sure Pie has a future. But he is no worse than Edmonds right now. If he's going to be a bust (Corey Patterson Part 2), it'd be better to find out soon. He really hasn't gotten consistent playing time, which is what he needs. I realize it's hard to do that on a team that is trying to win a title, but I wish he'd just get to start about 1/3 of the games, and see what he can do. Plus it would be nice to be able to put him in as a defensive replacement (maybe for Soriano?) and a pinch runner. But what do I know?

In Piniella, I trust-ella.

This thread sucks more than the Cubs Suck! thread.

Looks like another classic example of the "we're barely paying him anything so there's no risk!" mentality gone bad. Somebody should keep a list of these things.

The only risk is taking PT away from Pie, who isn't that great either, so I'd say, pretty low risk.

As unlikeable as Edmonds is, I liked the signing. It's not like Pie was doing a Josh Hamilton impression.

Speaking of Hamiliton, how awesome would he be in this lineup? I know the Cubs picked him up strictly to send him to the Reds, and wouldn't have signed him otherwise, but it's still hard to swallow.

Pie was batting .075 at Iowa going into Sunday's game. Those around him say his confidence is shot after getting sent down yet again.

That may end up being the true "cost" of signing Edmonds.

I know that ML pitching is lightyears better than AAA, but I don't understand how a guy like Pie who raked in AAA (until his last demotion) can barely break the Mendoza line in the majors.

Can Murton run well enough to play center? At least he can hit for average and as much power as Johnson or Edmonds.

Pie has a bad swing. I doubt it will change. His timing is bad. He looks like Choi to me. He can't square up a fastball. How f'ing hard is it to sit on a 3-1 fastball? I can hit a 97 MPH fastball...I've done it (turned on it). I'm not saying I can hit Major League Pitching, but how hard is it to get around on a fastball in a fastball count?

Big day for the Cubs today. Today is their 53rd game. Last season, game 53 marked their lowest point in the season when they dropped a 5th straight game to fall to 22-31. Zambrano had already punched Barrett. Lou might have gotten ejected in game 53 (may have been 52).

Interestingly, if they win today they'll be 32-21 - a full 10 games better. Even if they don't they'll have a mirror 31-22 record.
