Because they've learned modern coding and are doing just fine with it. Contrary to the OP who believes old actuaries cannot learn new information as technology and the times are changing.
No one is saying older people donít know more, of course they do. Also not doubting other skills that they have compared to younger folks. The question was, is it worth paying them significantly more for those things.

And the question was asked in good faith, so that young people today can get themselves equipped with those skills (knowledge gaining, relationship building, improving communication skills etc) so that theyíre better off if they decide to pursue an individual contributor role in the future.

What data have you collected to indicate that they are paid "significantly more" than someone who is 20 years younger in the same role?

What is the cost to re-acquire that lost knowledge?

My money will be on that it's a lot higher than that differential in pay you're looking at.

Uh... you realize that those regressions include people who are managers, chief actuaries, partners, etc. And that a higher percentage of the older folks have that sort of role.
