Default Latest Gen Gaming Console

I've given serious thought to purchasing a latest gen console.

The Switch library seems most appealing to me, but the lack of online play/content bites. Also, too many gimmicks. Not sure I'd ever bring the dinner plate mobile. Can't imagine bringing it on the bus. My Wii U is gathering dust. Also, too many things to buy...

PS4/Xbox both seem cool. Although I keep hearing not many games are in 4k. Still, having it double as a media box is appealing to me.

I've got a mediocre "gaming" computer I play some online games on.

Gaming in 4k on the big screen appeals to me.

Thoughts?

There is a limited edition PS4 out on Friday for $500.

Just super unfamiliar with either PSx or Xbox as I did not have a PS3 or XB360... just been reading what I can about their capabilities.

It used to be that playstation had the better single-player exclusives and xbox had halo so most multiplayer minded people had xbox... in the current generation a lot of xboxers moved over to playstation, so it seems like sony has a leg up on both fields this generation... that's neither here nor there if your friends are mostly on xbox or if you don't care for multiplayer things

xbox does have a better selection of indie games but it shouldn't matter much to you if you have a pc since you can play them there anyway

a note on gaming on a 4k tv, make sure the input response time of your tv is adequate for fast games (mostly fps and racing games) before you go out buying a console...

All depends on the games you want to play.. I like online, multiplayer, competitive kinds of games, so I go all out on PC. I got a Wii when it first came out and since then probably have logged less than 100 hours total (over the almost 12 years), taking local multiplayer into account. Got an xbox 360 some 7 years ago and probably played less than 10 hours of that. Therefore, I didn't bother getting any consoles since then. I use the 360 for playing DVD's, but that's it.

I did do some local multiplayer with some friends on their switch over the weekend and it was fun, but I never play single player games, so I'm not going to get one myself.

Sooo what games do you want to play? Where do you see yourself spending the most time?
