Ah, that explains what he wrote. Yeah, losing a spouse prematurely, as he did, is extremely rough. And memories are a pale (and low res, and unstable) substitute for the real thing.

That passage comes from A Grief Observed, which is a collection of journal entries he wrote right after his wife's death at age 45 after a long battle with cancer. It shows a very emotional and vulnerable side of someone whose writings are characteristically logical and assured. Very good and not that long, but it is a painful read.

Second option is a Type I sin
Third option is a Type II sin

Now that I'm and lost some people I care about, I sincerely hope there is an afterlife.

I voted "yes," but with the caveat that the word "afterlife" implies certain notions about the nature of time that I don't necessarily cosign. But close enough for jazz, as they say.

I'm not sure, but the last option implies that I might be raped in the afterlife and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

I think I read pretty much every book CS Lewis ever wrote in high school. I haven't revisited for the most part, but I definitely remember that book, maybe his best. Very raw.

Well, I would think that your molecules would move on to be incorporated into whatever organisms eat you after you die. So you become a part of them. Is that an afterlife?
