Default 2014 College Football

Didn't see another thread, and, heck, Spring Practices have come and gone...

First up, that pussy SEC with their pussy scheduling and, ...wait:

http://espn.go.com/college-football/...ure-scheduling

I will have to wait until 2016 before their balls stop being made out of pussy (sorry, great line from "Archer").

ACC joins the club of scheduling one more difficult team, stays at eight conference games.

Also, five teams are being scheduled to play Notre Dame each season. Starting 2014.

With 14 team conferences, playing 8 conference games is stupid. In the SEC's case, they have a 6 games against division, 1 "rival" out of division they play every year, and 1 rotating out of division game. That means that Florida will play Alabama once every 6 years (and Alabama will visit Florida once every 12 years).

I don't think the ACC does the rival thing, so with a 6-2 setup a player would at least have the chance to play every team in the conference during his 4 years.

I'm with David Shaw here:

Meh. There is a conference championship game to determine the conference champion. If they wanted to play a double-elimination tournament instead of a schedule, I wouldn't mind that, either.

The optimal line for national championship consideration is nine games AND dump the cupcakes.
Given one or the other, I'd rather they each play a "big 5" team (two would be even better). Connects the conferences for better analysis.

They're still scheduling cupcakes, though. Just not a full plate of them.

The playing a team from one of the 5 big conferences is not really anything new. I'd guess that 90% of current big 5 teams already schedule at least one big 5 team OOC right now.

An additional step that should have been taken is to not allow teams to schedule D1AA teams. The B1G took this policy when they go to a 9 game conference schedule.

I don't think one is enough.

I agree with your "no D1AA" stance. It is not the job of big school programs to hold up the little schools, while pummeling them on the field. But the game is mainly for benefit and employment and enslavement of bullies, so I'm sure they don't see anything wrong with it.

I've been a big supporter of a 9-game SEC schedule for several years..maybe they'll eventually do it when it starts being used against them. Also would strongly support adopting the B1G's 'no-1AA teams' rule.

The problem is coaches always vote in their own best interest, and many of them think they need those cupcake wins to sneak into a bowl game and hold onto their job. I believe Saban has been the only SEC coach to support the 9 game schedule.

What percentage of D1A teams (not sure what the designation is these days) had a 50% win percentage? Past few years?
I'm guessing 75% or so.

I'm sure it could be looked up somewhat easily. Maybe I'll do that later. I'd probably guess about 65% are >=.500

Well, those minor-but-still-D1A conferences might lower the percentage.
