And just to start the thread off right, here's some bad news for the Rangers.

Dan Blackburn calls it a career

Too bad about Blackburn. I thought the kid had potential (if he ever got away from the stRangers anyway). The resident net-minder may have a different opinion.

Wish I could link to one of those countdown timers. It's gonna be like Christmas in less than 8 days.

I've always loved Blackburn - and was particularly surprised when Columbus passed over him to take Pascal Leclaire. Of course, I've always been a Western Hockey League pimp.

Got to meet Dan in Victoria last year while I was up visiting friends back home - he was in surprisingly good spirits. Seeing him play with two blockers took a lot of getting used to; it reminded me (not that I ever saw it live) of how Bill Durnan used to wear gloves on both hands that were blocker/trapper combos. Depending on the handedness of the shooter, he'd hold his stick in one hand, and catch pucks with the other.

Dan will be missed. Fortunately for the Rangers, Lundqvist looks to be the real deal, but they've had some luck over the past few years with goaltenders.

I feel bad for him, because he's 22 and it seems like this may permanently limit his mobility in that arm. That's pretty sucky. I never really saw him play much, but he did seem like a pretty good prospect.

I'd like to start the list of "players that would never in a million be seen on my fantasy roster, but I'd love to see wearing the home team colors." Number one on my list is Mike Ricci.

Current players only?

Otherwise: Claude Lemieux.

I was happy to see Bryan Marchment on the Avs for the short time he was there, but only because I didn't have to worry about any of our forwards' knees for awhile.

If that's acceptable criteria ... Darius Kasparitis.

Matthew Barnaby, unless most penalty minutes and fights lost are categories.
