Default Can you make notes or set up calculator before pressing "start" on CBT?

So as far as I understand, when you go into the exam center, they empty your pockets, clear your calculator and give you writing pages and pens.
You then sit at your computer and go read and accept some things and then press "start".

Is it allowed to, say, write down some formulae or even set up your calculator before pressing "start" and seeing the first question?

You aren't supposed to, per SOA rules. The proctors at the testing centers may or may not be aware of this rule.

See # 10: "You may not write nor use a calculator prior to beginning the timed section of the exam when the first live exam question appears on the screen. This will take place after the completion of the tutorial."

My proctors for C a few weeks ago actually made the point to tell me that was the case before going into the testing room.
