Default Data Visualization stuff

Just want to keep one thread on this.

I subscribe to Stephen Few's newsletter:
http://www.perceptualedge.com/articl...ith_bricks.pdf

When I looked at these two maps, I instantly got what he meant.

One of the examples he shows involves mortality patterns.

The upshot is that data visualization technology will make it easier and more intuitive to start at a high level of abstraction and then go more granular as needed. I think actuaries have always been "in the business" of doing this, but in many ways this is much more upside down than conventional approaches.

Data visualization tools will probably be extremely common in a few years, as they offer a promising way to digest the extreme torrent of data coming from the web. It will also be interesting to see if actuaries can harness other new data sources from the web to model policyholder behavior, conduct BI, etc.

We'll probably be working with pivot tables "on steroids" in no time.

Well, you could ask the SOA ... (and i can think of less direct ways of getting the data)
