Especially for internships. It's sometimes a long while between offer and start date, so many things can happen on either side of the fence to change the situation.

we have 5 summer interns coming our way in 2017. If one backed out, I might not even notice. To be honest, we interviewed them in sept, so I only remember 3 of them.
