I have a friend who bought in at $5 and mentioned it when it got up to $20. I remember when it got above $100 and it seemed like the most obvious thing in the world to sell. I think he finally sold at $200. I can't imagine too many people bought in below $10 with the expectation it was going to go to $20k+

Cryptocurrencies are assets, not currencies, for US income tax purposes.
