i will retire with enough cash for a couple of years living expense. why shouldn't i adjust my income to limit my expenses and taxes (question not addressed to you specifically WW)? common retirement advice and strategy has significant emphasis tax efficient withdrawals and the like.

plenty of people take advantage of tax law even when they oppose it. many AOers oppose deductions for charitable expense, mort int expense, etc, and believe that we are undertaxed. i also know people irl who believe this, yet they all take those deductions and do not pay any FIT over and above what is required of them.
