I donít use machine learning or advanced statistics every day, but I use estimation and approximation methods every day. These topics are related in a deep way.

You don't need this type of grasp on statistics to do a lot of traditional actuarial work. There are plenty of non-traditional roles where it might help, though.

That said, threads like this pop up every once in a while. At its face it seems like an online study group but I'm more cynical about what is accomplished.
