Got an 880 in the mail today. It's 2 months later than planned, but I think it will be worth the wait. Thanks for the tip on where to find it.

Probably won't get a chance to program it until after my exam on Friday. Looking forward to some quality nerd-time.

Looking into getting a Harmony remote. Should I get the 880 or the new 890 advanced? Anyone know the best place to buy one for the best deal?

Thanks.

So far I've searched around and found an 880 on Amazon for $150. Looks like I may be able to wait for a rebate deal though.

The 880 rocks. It's techy enough to do most everything I want it to do and user-friendly enough for the girl. It also passes her coffee table test. (i.e., it looks nice)

I've seen the 880 as low as around 115-120 with a rebate (about a month or two ago)...but 150-160 easily available with no rebate (amazon.com and jr.com)

as far as the 880 vs the 890...do you have any z-wave technology (lighting or fans) that you also want to control? the 890 has RF capability, but only with it's extender and z-wave devices.

RF with it's extender is nice, because if your components are behind cabinent doors, you won't need to open them. The RF signal is sent to the extender, which then sends the signal to the components via IR emitters inside your cabinet that ARE in line of sight.

I have glass doors on my cabinet, so I have no need for the RF.

I've had the 880 for over a year and love it. It can take quite a while to program, and most people hate the programming software, but I assure you, in the end, it's worth the time

I recommend going to the logitech support forums, and in the general remote section taking the test drive that's linked to in the compatibility thread to make sure that all your devices are in the logitech database.

of course if you post your devices and manufacturers of them, I might be able to tell you right away about some benefits and quirks that have been seen with some devices.
