Cool, I do have a fan and light combo that runs on remote control - not sure the make though.

Samsung 5088 DLP TV
JVC - receiver
Samsung DVD player
Motorola HD Comcast Cable box

What else will this remote run? I have some lights that I have trouble getting to the switch ... wonder if I could put something into that switch box as well and use the remote for those, that would be cool

anything that's IR can be controlled...if it's not in the database, then you should be able to learn the commands from the original remote

if the fans/lights are RF, they'll likely need to be z-wave rf to work with the 890, but there are some threads on the logitech site about other lights/fans that do work

you'll the samsung tv on the harmony remote, as the database has codes that should allow for direct input switching (instead of scrolling with next input or going into the input menu)...it's really nice

it looks like an easy enough setup, since you don't have multiples of any device (i.e. two tvs of the same model sitting next to each other) or any problematic type things (i.e. Home Theater in a Boxes) that a lot of people have trouble setting up.

I've got my 880 controlling Samsung DLP HDTV (HLP-5063W), Scientific Atlantic HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8000HD), LG DVD Player (LGDVB418), JVC VCR (HR-S5901U), Sony Receiver (STR-DE697), XBox 360

Hmm, does only the 890 work on the "z-wave" technology? It would be cool to replace all the light switches in my tv-room and have them all work on the harmony remote control.

if you put in dimmer switches like this that are IR switches, as long as you have line of sight with the remote, you can use the 880 with them

anything IR will work with any harmony remote (so long as you have the original remote in case it's not in the database)...

so depending on the location of your switches, if IR works, I would recommend something like what I linked to...if not, then I would say start looking at some RF light switches that are z-wave

Actually my question was, does the 880 work on any light switches? or to do lights should I go for the 890 or 1000?

Edit: nevermind, you answered it above

880 will control Infared (IR) light switches....but no RF switches...I linked to an IR light switch....

so yes, the 880 will work on some light switches, but as with any IR device and remote, a 'line of sight' is required between the remote and the IR receiver for the signal to work
