In general, it all has to depend on what job the resume is being used for. If it's for some sort of child-care related position, I would opt to listing something like what Jas here suggests. (I had my wife use "Social Engineer" when going back to the work force after ~10 years as a SAHP.)

For corporate environment, far better to leave that gap and explain it in a cover letter (if at all).
