To offer another consideration for the OP . . . there is the idea of "friendly competition" that involves (sometimes) holding a higher view of "your team" and a lower view of "everyone else".

The best place to see this bear out is the military. Army dogs will rag on Marine jar-heads (and vice versa). Similar bravado is presented whenever a member of one branch is in the company of someone else from another branch.

The thing is, if any external party starts to go off on any member of the military, you'll find all of these "adversaries" bonding together to defend their comrade in arms.


Given that most Act Sci programs in universities seem to be catering towards SOA careers, I'm not surprised that there might be added bravado on the P&C side here.
