A few years ago I attended an SOA meeting. The then-president of SOA went full ballistic against CAS in his speech. He said he made an offer to CAS to buy them, but they declined.

He said something like there are SOA actuaries in more than 55 countries, and there more than 25,000 SOA Actuaries (FSA+ASA) compared to only 5,000 CAS actuaries (FCAS+ACAS). Also, CAS exists in only a handful of countries.

I got a feeling from his speech that he wanted CAS to bow down to SOA.

I switched from P&C to life. I enjoy the work much more and find it more interesting... Maybe it had something to do with being in specialty P&C rather than primary.
