Default A Exam P Success Story

Hello Actuarial Outposters,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Ever since my last month of high school in 2013 I wanted to see if I had what it takes to become an actuary. This was inspired by my uncle's best friend who was an actuary and always told me about how much money he made.

Right off the bat I was facing a challenge due to people that didn't believe in me. The first was my guidance counselor who told me that my standard test scores indicated that a job with intense mathematical rigor wasn't for me (SATs are a scam, but that's another topic). I enrolled in an Actuarial Center of Excellence and even then I had professors that doubted my ability to break into the field.

Exam P was a BEAST. In total, it took me 7 tries to take it (0,3,2,4,2,5,PASS). However, as of earlier this week I am victorious against exam P. I plan on using my skills to help people with their questions and wanted to introduce myself. I will also be studying for Exam FM for Fall 2020 and am starting to send my resume to companies.

7 tries is bad. if it really took you that many tries and you're not trolling, you might want to consider a different field. there are a lot more exams than P and if you struggle with exams, this field isn't a good match. you'll make more money elsewhere.

Also, I'm really bothered by the fact that this post is titled "A Exam P Success Story" instead of "An Exam P Success Story." So much so that I think I'm gonna post about it in Things that bother you more than they should...

Congrats! Perseverance pays off. There's a reason why there's no age or attempt limit on these things.

there's quality of life issues though. does anyone want to spend their entire life taking actuarial exams? this field just isn't that amazing to be taking 7 tries at each exam.
