He was doing a quick session on teaching people the basics of VBA, but it evolved into him showing us this "toolbar/package/ribbon" he had made in Excel that I must admit was quite expansive. From what I could tell it covered basic regression formulas, statistical tests, histograms, etc.... Anyways, he walked through the the VBA code he wrote to perform Iteratively reweighted least squares that was part of this "toolkit" he had made. I was quite impressed but then again... The whole time I was aching to ask... "This is all great and what not, but why? Why spend all this time developing this when you can just do it in R?" Of course, I kept my mouth shut. Riley

I had excel crash on me last week just randomly. Wasn't even calculating anything. Not even a big dataset or file. It was just like 'sorry, decided to crash.'

Things to avoid doing in Excel:
Selecting logarithmic scale on a graph of negative numbers (with scale inverted to show lines above the xaxis). Suddenly Excel is in an endless loop of computation and rendering, leaving a Picassoesque colored triangluation of lines shooting out from what was formerly my graph.
