i agree that it seemed obvious that he allowed himself to be captured... which is why i think he already has a plan in place to escape.

what that plan is or how he had time to formulate it let alone implement it is beyond me, but that's my guess.

I believe that Daryl just wanted to reconnect with his brother. He didn't have an escape plan ready because he didn't know he'd need one. He couldn't have anticipated that the Gov would declare Merle to be a traitor -- because Daryl couldn't have known that Merle lied to the Gov about Michonne.

you don't think it's plausible that Daryl thought he would need an exit strategy after reconnecting with Merle in hostile territory?

Maybe, but he thought that Merle was close to the top guy, not an enemy. It makes a difference, obviously.

i'm working from the perpsective that Daryl wanted to find Merle from the beginning. if that was his intention, he could have been planning an escape all along, and when an opportunity presented itself ("I'll stay behind and cover for you!"), he executed it. we have no idea what happened between that moment and his reappearance later on.

i don't know how likely any of that is, i am just speculating on how Merle and Daryl will escape a seemingly impossible situation.

that's a good point, but i still think someone as resourceful as Daryl would have at least considered an exit strategy if his capture was premeditated. that of course all goes out the window if it was a heat of the moment decision, ala "Looks like someone has to stay behind in order for the others to get away; it might as well be me, maybe I can reason with Merle."

i guess we'll find out in February.

Oh yes - forgot about that part.

Definitely not as likely without the gunshot, but not guaranteed to avoid the farm without the shot either...
i think the herd formed after hearing an earlier gunshot. the herd was moving through the woods when they heard the gunshot that downed shane and then it converged on the farm.

I don't expect Rick to leave Daryl behind.

And with all those folks at the arena, who's left guarding the Gates of Woodbury?

You probably won't take the guy's advice, but supposedly from the actor who plays Tyreese:
Quote:
On "The Walking Dead's" habit of killing off African-American characters after limited screen time (Jacqui, T-Dog, Oscar)...

"I have a very dear friend who I think is very much leading the online charge [to improve the show's African-American characters]. I can't say anything but slow down, be easy, you're gonna be incredibly proud. [Executive producer] Glen Mazzara and all of these folks have the highest of integrity and character. We matter as much as anyone else, you're gonna see that played out on the show. I don't think there's any kind of agenda on [the writers'] parts, it's just how storytelling unfolds sometimes. You're gonna be incredibly proud of Tyreese and Michonne and Sasha [Sonequa Martin-Green]. You're gonna be so satisfied."
