I just finished going through all the Sample MC questions. I have determined I need to spend some time on Multiple Decrements models (insurances and annuity benefits section in ASM, in particular, Universal Life, and Profit Testing. Going to read through the sections, then tackle the sample WA problems.

Does anyone know when SOA will release official solutions to the fall 2017 sitting? Passed, but just want to see what their take on the WA (#s 5, 6) is.

I've noticed a few times on coaching actuaries they will mention that you can use UDD shortcuts on multiple choice but not WA because the formulas aren't discussed in the textbook.

Is this really true? It just seems unnecessary and kind of mean.

My impression is that no one knows for certain.

However, I think that if large numbers of students are utilizing these shortcuts in the WA problems (and I suspect that they are), the graders are very likely to understand what is going on and score the papers accordingly.

Given the time constraint of the exam, it might be worth using the shortcut if you don't otherwise have time to complete the problem. If you were to have extra time at the end, you could always go back and explain the shortcut, or try to demonstrate an alternate method.

Hi all,

I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that the SOA is gonna remove some material from spring 18 MLC exam like they did MFE in July 2017.

Can anyone confirm this? and which material?

Also, how do you guys approach this exam? do you go through the entire book quickly just to have a general idea of the material and then proceed with practice exams/exercises? Or do you make sure to understand (and practice) every chapter very well before moving on to the next one?

Personally, I feel like for this exam, every new chapter is kinda the following of the previous chapter so I think it's a good idea to spend a little bit more time on each chapter and do like 9-10 problems before proceeding with the next chapter.

This is my strategy but I was wondering how everybody felt about this.

The changes do not apply to the Spring 2018 MLC exam; they apply to the Fall 2018 LTAM exam.

LTAM includes everything from MLC except the following topics:
- Universal Life Insurance
- Participating Insurance

In addition, LTAM also includes the following new topics:
- Long-term Insurance Coverages
- Life Table Estimation
