Found THIS LG one and THIS Samsung one. Other than the small price gap, any major differences between these two?

And good call on checking Costco. I might need to head that way for a peek at what they have.

If the specs are correct, the LG uses more than double the power of the Samsung (190W vs 75W). What up with that?

I was looking at Costco a few months back and by far the best looking TV was the Samsung quantum dot displays. That's what I'd get.

I might look into getting an Android TV device and using YouTube TV or whatever it's called.

I haven't shopped for these things in a while. We started quite a while ago with Roku and have stuck with them, we have four of them now. I've been happy with their reliability and channel selection, and the app that lets you use your phone as a remote is reasonably slick. So there's more anecdata.

Roku 4 does 4k, if you want that.

Oh yeah, we have a roku remote, but we have the remote app on two phones and three tablets.

we've had fun doing dueling remotes sometimes (but no, we really don't do this... it was just the first weekend we installed the apps on the phones/tablets)

One nice thing about a big fat PC is that you'll be able to do VR.

Go all out, and locate a NIB Panasonic ZT60 from a few years back. Arguably the best panel ever produced, it doesn't do 4k but you won't even care.

If erose is reading this, he's pretty aroused right now.

The LG spec page for the TV lists the standby power consumption but not the in-use consumption. It's almost as if they're embarassed by it.

On the other hand, the Samsung spec page lists 250W as the max power, along with 75W typical usage, which makes me wonder about the accuracy & honesty of their "typical" number.

I highly recommend the Samsung KS8000 line from their 2016 lineup. I have the 65" version in my living room.

Reports are that the 2017 replacement isn't as good.
You can pick up the KS800D model from places like Costco and BJ's
Heck, I think Groupon has the 65" version (refurbished) for $999

It has tons of smart tv features like Netflix, YouTube, amazon prime, Hulu, etc. but it also has movies by Vudu (so you can finally get those ultraviolet didgital copies to your tv).
Has a great 4K panel with full HDR.

I'm just pissed I can't get the 49" version anymore (for a reasonable price) to upgrade my bedroom tv. I may just get a 55".

I have apple tvs in all my tv rooms. But with the built in apps you'll get the full 4K from places that offer it like Netflix and prime.

Went to see my dad's buddy at the local A/V store.

For now, it looks like we'll either double-down on AppleTV and buy a 4th gen, or wait for the 5th gen that is rumored to support 4K.

For a TV, they recommended I go with the 65" variety of the Sony 850 series. It looked good in the store, but what TV doesn't? Any obvious issues/problems with that one?
