To get 40% extra performance for less than $200 bucks more is arguably a pretty good deal for something that will give you enjoyment for a few years. Even though it may come close to double the cost, the magnitude of $$ is not that high, so price to performance ratio really doesn't mean much in this case. It's not like you are going to be saving thousands. Of course that is just my point of view.

To each his own though.
He wants to build a gaming pc for under a grand. Lets not go all pc master race and scare him away. A 1070 isn't necessary for 1080p gaming.

Manipulating women...now THAT's hard. Probably because most woman have no clue what they like.

I agree that a 1060 is fine as long as he goes for the 6GB version.

Yes, the decision for GFX card was between 1060 6 gb or 480 4 gb

Of those, I'd go with the 1060. If it was the 8GB 480, i'd say it's a tossup. Just my opinion from reading comparisons a few months ago.

I have the 1060 and it's more than sufficient for mid-range gaming. Specs are great for the price.

video card comparison here: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

+1 on microcenter. some knowledgeable people there at my local store. they are pretty price competitive. if i use the salesman's knowledge, i buy the parts there even if i could save a few bucks at amazon.

lots of good ideas in this thread, OP. stick with what you're reading here and you'll be good

case matters more than you think so spend some time looking at reviews (youtube is great for this) and pick one that's easy to work with and sexy enough to impress the ladies (second part optional)
