^Can't be topped IMO but there are plenty of good candidates for 2nd place.

Mason Wiliams - Classical Gas (played live by Glen Campbell)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4Ga67EDrKI

He really shows off on this one - William Tell Overture - From 2:30 to 3:00 he plays the frenetic song with the guitar atop his head...

Just some instrumentals by people that I think of as primarily writing music with words:

"Por la Cara" by Mecano

I wrote about half my masters thesis to the B52s "Follow your Bliss" (mentioned above), the other half to "Beautiful Life" by Ace of Base, which is not instrumental.

"Out of Thin Air" by Howard Jones

"China Dance" also by Howard Jones isn't as good, IMO.

"1984" by Van Halen Very short. Kind of an intro to "Jump."

"Terminal Frost" by Pink Floyd (I suppose, technically, there are some words, kind of, somewhere in there.)

Non-classical, non-movie, instrumentals that I enjoy that I don't think have been mentioned:

"All of Me" by John Schmidt Also a lot of other Piano Guys stuff.

"Colossus" by BlueFox, the youtube version has an audio watermark. I don't know why I like this one, but I do.

Anything by Joe Satriani.
