Yep. Me too, five tix.

The guy at the counter asked, "ARE YOU GONNA HIT IT?" And I shake my head and say, "Nah."

He responded, "What? Everybody I ask that says, 'Yeah, I'm gonna hit it!' You're the first guy to say no!"

I shrugged. A bit like this: (Actually, more like a shoulder shrug. Whatevs.)

It’s not true all $2 tickets are equal payout. If you pick 1-2-3-4-5 6 you’ll be most definitely sharing your winnings with another contestant in the event of a jackpot.

One of you smarties could have sat down and said let’s try something a bit odd with 5’s and 3’s and we will end doing a 77 but like this:

15-23-53-65-70 megaball 7

Very simple stuff here. Woulda got you a Billion but you didn’t think it through

Just 5’s and 3’s. and in the tens place do a 1 2 skip a few 67
15 23 53 65 70 7
Easy as pie

The daydreams are worth $2, imo...but as soon as those numbers are drawn I immediately feel like a for even thinking I had a chance.

No you just had to go
15 and 65
23 and 53
77 but do it as 70 and megaball 7

15 23 53 65 70 (7)
But you didn’t. Why didn’t you?

If you buy 100,000 tickets for $200,000 every drawing, odds are you will most frequently win $8,000 back from the $200,000 spent. That’s the “mode” when using $1,000 ranges...most frequent outcome. Using averages wouldn’t do justice because it applies the Billion Jackpot to the average.

You will get most your frequent winnings from 2 matching numbers for $2 and some from $5 on 3 matching numbers, and a about 11 $50 payouts for 4 matching numbers.

Even buying 100,000 tickets for $200,000 every drawing, it will take about 1-2 years to get a 5 matching numbers where the missing one is the mega ball and pays $1M. Way More times you will get 4 of 5 plus the megaball which only pays $500.

Winning the jackpot will take a full 35 years and $700 million thrown. Aha there’s a reward when jackpot is this high, but avg jackpot is way less paid out! Actuarially saying the risk/reward sux is an understatement.

When you convert to lump sum and subtract taxes winner will be left with 500-600 million assuming there is a single winner. Still a negative expected value bet.
