That's the route I took. the linking process I found online, and described above is too clumsy (and that's not even counting the perils of linking files). Mail merge is too much work.

In the past, I've actually written simple memos in Excel itself, linking all the cell references within one file. but this particular memo is pages long. too hard to write in excel.

I read this thread and then opened the word doc where I did this several years ago to remember how I did it.

Now I am stuck in an infinite loop that I can't seem to break out of where word is trying deperately to open the linked file in Excel and failing. The word file does not appear to have actually opened.

So yeah, probably shouldn't do this.
