I went from valuation to pricing a few years ago and never looked back. Seems to be the trend on the life side. Agreed with Jas's comment on life reserving.

Interesting. I have some experience in specialty and have always worked in large commercial - my favorite part of the job is the judgment/"creativity" involved because of the lack of data, to me that's more interesting than personal lines seems like it'd be.

But yes my job is closely related to underwriting in many ways and we work together closely.

Look no further than the pecking order of glam actuarial jobs, by type of company:

-P&C reinsurance
-P&C commercial specialty
-P&C commercial
-Life reinsurance
-P&C personal
-Health
-Life primary
-Retirement/Benefits
-Pension

P&C dominates the top 5.
