I think it depends on the level. More qualified candidates are harder to come by in some locales.

For my most recent search, all of which required relocation, I am 3/4.

1/(number of other qualified candidates that were brought into the office for an in person interview)
reduce this probability if there are qualified candidates that were brought in that are local.

Thanks for all the posts, it all make sense. I know my question was dumb, so i appreciate you all taking the time for your input.

So as suspected, it isn't a guarantee, and in fact might be a hindrance if you're about equal to someone else who is local. Just gotta do your best and hope for the best

Although, based off of your numbers, seems like you guys think it's a fairly decent chance of getting it. Even 2/5 aint bad considering they're probably interviewing several people

From another thread, I think this is a good answer to the OP:

My latest favorite quotes, updated Feb 15, 2018. Hmmm. It's been quite a while.

Spoiler:
I should keep these four permanently.

FYI, the 3 I didn't get were EL and the 2 I did get were mid-level when I was of course better at interviewing.
