Hmmm, Bestbuy now has the EVO 4G in white in stock at my location. May have to head up there over lunch and check it out.

The cyanogenMOD release candidate is now available for Nexus1, G1 , Droid and Mytouch.

http://www.cyanogenmod.com/home/cyanogenmod-6-0-0-rc1

For Droids and N1 users, this new Rom is not that important as N1 already has Froyo update and Droid is supposed to get theirs this week.

For G1/Mytouch crowd, this is pretty big deal since this may be their only ways to get Froyo update. And there is no better than Cyanogen and his team to work on this as they are probably the strongest Android ROM dev team now.

I played with the Droid X over lunch today. I was really impressed with the screen. It's amazing to look at. The keyboard is a big improvement over the original Droid too.

It is also noticeably lighter than the original Droid. I think I'm going to be happy to leave the physical keyboard and its weight behind.

I just rooted my EVO last night (unrEVOked3 is ridiculously easy), so I'm wanting to pop a custom rom on there with the Droid X keyboard on it. Should be awesome.

My Droid X arrives tomorrow, decided to go that way instead of the EVO.

Picked up my Droid X yesterday (Thursday) morning. It's enormous... but the screen is sharp, and the extra real estate actually makes using the browser and on-screen keyboard rather pleasant. So far my only concern is what sort of battery life I'll be able to get out of it -- on the default brightness it seemed to run through battery a bit faster than I'd prefer.

Droid X is a nice phone. It is probably one of the more difficult phones to install custom ROM if you ever interested. Motorola even said that themselves. But hey, if the phone is works great, why hack it?

Congrats

The Locale app is really useful in controlling screen brightness. It can keep the screen brightness low when you're home and in the office, and ramp it up otherwise.

I think the X comes with some extra battery mgt tools. Look around in the settings.

I really liked typing vertically on the X. But on the model I played with, typing horizontally felt a bit laggy. It may have just been an over-worked model.
