Buy a blu-ray drive for your computer and rip the files to a hard drive and then attach the hard drive to your TV and play them that way? Or if you only have 2 blu-rays borrow a friends blu-ray drive for those and just rip the rest with your computer's DVD drive.

Some cheap players have long boot-up times and/or long times to recognize a disc and start playing. Blu-Ray players are essentially special-purpose PCs that run a bloated operating system with all sorts of media functionality, they're not like the DVD players of 10+ years ago that were built with simple dedicated electronics without the numerous software bells and whistles.

Or you could just buy a plain old DVD player. They're still being sold.
Yep. We bought a super-cheap BR player for our son, Insignia I think. Holy cow, it takes about two minutes to read a disc. Hate it. Get another DVD player or pony up for a Sony or similar.

Picked up an LG for $40 at the pawn shop. Haven't hooked it up yet.

At the risk of hijacking, be careful of what Bluray drive you get for your computer to rip. Most have a built in speed limit for ripping. Do your research.

It works. Could even supposedly use it instead of the chromecast. It will be nice to be able to stream amazon in the family room.
